THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) agents conducted a surprise visit in a warehouse in Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday, Aug. 23, as the the Marcos administration’s campaign against sugar hoarders and profiteers shifted to Northern Mindanao.
Acting on orders from the Office of the President (OP), operatives from the BoC swooped down on several warehouses of the Crystal Sugar Milling Inc. located at North Poblacion, based on intelligence reports that the owners are allegedly engaged in the hoarding of stocks of sugar.
The initial probe conducted by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) indicated that of the total inventoried 466,142 sacks of sugar, some 264,000 sacks were said to have been already sold to traders and that the stocks have not yet been withdrawn from the warehouse.
