Birth, death, marriage certs now valid for life

By Glen Ramos
admin August 2, 2022

GOOD news to all! Birth, death, and marriage certificates are now valid for life as the bill proposing its legality has lapsed into law on July 28, 2022.

This will put an end to the practice of requiring that these documents be issued in every six months which is costly and even time consuming.

Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr, said that a copy of Malacañang’s letter signed by Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez, was sent to the senate today informing Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri that the bill lapsed into law.

The bill provides certificates of birth, death, and marriage certificates issued, signed, certified, or authenticated by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and its predecessor the National Statistics Office, and local civil registries would have permanent validity regardless of date of issuance.

“These documents will forever be valid “provided that the document remains intact, readable and still visibly contains the authenticity and security features,” Revilla said.

Meanwhile, the law provides that the permanent validity of marriage certificates is also only applicable where the marriage has not been judicially decreed annulled or declared void ab initio under the Family Code of the Philippines or any subsequent amendatory law on marriage.

However, the PSA said that while the birth certificates it issues will not expire, some government agencies and private institutions still require this document to be obtained in the past six months as the security paper it is printed on changes every six months.
