FRESH from his victory over Mexican knockout artist David Picasso, unbeaten Filipino boxer Carl Jammes Martin is setting his sights on a world championship in his future fights, announcing that he is ready to face boxing’s best for a world title.
Guesting at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum with his father Abel, Martin expressed enthusiastically that winning the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight crown remains his priority, although he is open to facing highly ranked featherweights.
“I want someone ranked higher than Picasso, perhaps in the top three or four, a bigger name, and hopefully a world championship next,” Ifugao’s 27-year-old ‘Wonder Boy’ enthusiastically pointed out.
After scoring a split-decision victory over Picasso in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Martin improved his record to 29-0 with 21 knockouts. He is currently ranked No. 1 by the WBO in the super bantamweight division.
Martin’s father and trainer disclosed that their next move now would depend on offers from handlers led by international matchmaker Sean Gibbons.
He added that their immediate plans, though, is to take a respite for about a month before gradually resuming regular training.
