The car driven by the suspect who according to police was drunk when the accident happened.
A FATHER and his two sons were killed after being mowed down by a speeding car in Ibaan, Batangas on Black Saturday.
The Batangas police said the car driven by John Erick Berberabe, 29, of Tierra Verde Subdivison, Brgy. Pallocan West, Batangas City, hit six persons standing beside a parked jeepney along the side of the national highway in Barangay Matala at about 1:35 a.m.
The car then crashed onto a steel gate on the other side of the road.
Joselito Bayos Jr. and his two sons, John Ivan, 19, and Jeremy, 16, died on the spot, while Josephine Bayos, wife of Joselito; Princess Tjaon, 21; and an unidentified 17-year-old boy, all sustained injuries and were transported to the Queen Mary Hospital in the locality. The Bayos family came from a family outing in San Juan Batangas.
“The victims were about to ride their vehicle after getting their tire fixed in a vulcanizing shop when they were hit by the speeding car,” Police Staff Sergeant Jonel Pintor, case investigator, said in a phone interview by Inquirer.
Berberabe was said to be drunk.
Police said Berberabe, who also sustained injuries, was detained after his treatment at the same hospital.
He will face formal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple serious physical injuries.
