THE Philippine Air Force (PAF) confirmed Saturday the tragic deaths of four pilots after two training aircraft crashed within the perimeter of Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas on Friday, October 23.
The incident was recorded at 3:51 p.m. and involved two single‑propeller SF‑260 planes that went down during a routine training mission. All four airmen on board the aircraft perished in the accident.
In an official statement, the PAF expressed profound sorrow over the loss of its personnel.
“We mourn the passing of four pilots who gave their lives in service to our country. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families, loved ones, and fellow airmen,” the branch said. As an immediate safety measure, the entire fleet of SF‑260 aircraft has been grounded pending a full technical and operational inquiry into what caused the mid‑air incident.
A formal investigation is now underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the crash, including mechanical, environmental, and procedural factors. The PAF assured the public that it is extending all necessary assistance and support to the bereaved families, while respectfully requesting that their privacy be observed during this difficult time. “May their courage, dedication, and service be forever remembered, and may they rest in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
