A FINANCIAL forensic analyst testifying for the prosecution in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial placed the total value of undeclared assets and income linked to Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, at ₱817.87 million between 2022 and 2025.
Presenting his findings on Day 37 of the proceedings, witness Alexander Cabrera arrived at the figure by applying the legal principle of “piercing the corporate veil” — treating assets held through entities such as Cale88 Foods Corporation, Metro City Chow, and Gencorp as effectively belonging to the couple, rather than separate legal entities.
Cabrera’s comprehensive accounting combined undeclared cash, unreported real and personal properties, and income not disclosed in their Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN). The breakdown included earnings attributed to Cale88 and Metro City as well as income linked to Gencorp, all of which the analyst maintained should have been declared by the Vice President and her husband. When directly asked by lead prosecutor Rep. Chel Diokno for the grand total, Cabrera gave the precise amount: ₱817,874,867.
The witness emphasized that his methodology was deliberately conservative to avoid overstating the discrepancy. “Our method here is very conservative. That is what we made sure of — that there was no double counting, no duplication of the count,” Cabrera stated, affirming that the figure represented a minimum calculation rather than an inflated estimate. Additional details presented included nine Bank of the Philippine Islands accounts linked to the couple holding approximately ₱8 million in deposits as of 2025, and confirmation from a Bureau of Internal Revenue witness that no record exists of Carpio having sold Cale88 Foods as previously claimed.
The evidence forms the core of Article II of the impeachment complaint, which charges Duterte with unexplained wealth and failure to truthfully declare her financial standing as required by law and the Constitution. The defense has yet to formally respond to Cabrera’s report or present its own accounting of the couple’s assets and income.
