FORMER Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Monday said he maintains his innocence and is prepared to face the charges against him following the Sandiganbayan’s decision ordering his transfer from Cardinal Santos Medical Center to the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
“I respect the decision of the Sandiganbayan,” Romualdez said.
He thanked his physicians at Cardinal Santos Medical Center and the doctors of the Philippine General Hospital for their care and professional judgment.
“I will continue to follow the medical advice of my doctors,” he said.
Romualdez stressed that the change in his place of detention does not change his position on the charges against him.
“I have always said that I will face the charges against me and answer them before the proper court. That has not changed,” he said.
“I maintain my innocence. Haharapin ko ang kaso. Sasagutin ko ang mga paratang.”
The former Speaker acknowledged the difficulty the development poses for him and his family but said he would face the days ahead with dignity.
“This is a difficult moment for me and my family. But I will face the days ahead with dignity, with faith in God, and with confidence in the truth,” Romualdez said.
