PCG recovers body of Agana Bridge victim in Dagupan City; search continues

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has recovered the body of one of the five passengers whose vehicle plunged into the Tarlac River following the partial collapse of Agana Bridge in Tarlac City on August 29, 2026.

The discovery brings renewed hope for closure to families still awaiting word on their loved ones, even as the search for the remaining missing persons presses on.

The body was recovered on August 31, 2026, in the waters off Barangay Pugaro, Dagupan City, Pangasinan. At around 12:00 noon, Coast Guard Station Dagupan received a report from a motorbanca operator who spotted a floating cadaver in the area.

A response team was immediately deployed to verify the sighting and conduct retrieval operations, confirming the discovery and recovering the body, which was then brought to Barangay Poblacion Oeste and turned over to Dagupan City Police Station 5 for proper disposition.

Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap later confirmed that the recovered individual was indeed one of the victims of the Agana Bridge collapse.

The PCG continues search and rescue operations for the four remaining missing persons, with response teams combing the Tarlac River and downstream areas in close coordination with concerned authorities. The bridge collapse occurred amid heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon, which weakened the structure and caused a section to give way, sending the vehicle carrying five people into the raging waters.
