A FOREST ranger from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) passed away while on duty in a forest conservation area in Barangay Talisay, Lipa City, Batangas, on August 13.
According to DENR Calabarzon, Ranger Raymond John Lara was patrolling the area together with his colleagues when he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed on the ground. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, but doctors confirmed he died from a heart attack.
Lara had dedicated more than a decade to public service, having served for 11 years as a contract of service employee with the Batangas Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
Just two months ago, in June, he finally earned his permanent appointment as a regular employee — a milestone he had long worked toward. His death came as a shock to colleagues, who described him as a dedicated and hardworking public servant who remained committed to protecting the environment despite the challenges of his post.
The DENR Calabarzon region expressed deep sorrow over the passing of their colleague, honoring his service and sacrifice in safeguarding the country’s forest resources. Lara’s sudden death has also drawn attention to the demanding conditions faced by forest rangers, who often work long hours in rugged terrain and harsh weather to protect the environment. The agency extended its deepest condolences to the ranger’s family and assured them of all necessary assistance and support in their time of grief.
