FORMER speaker and Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez has strongly denied the allegation made by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla that he was behind the recantations of four former bodyguards of ex-Representative Zaldy Co.
In an official statement released Friday, Romualdez dismissed the accusation as “absolutely not true,” and said it only serves to prove how extremely prejudiced the Ombudsman is against him.
Romualdez pointed out that the recantations actually validate what he has maintained all along — that the original accusations against him were fabricated and false.
“The recantations prove what I had been saying all along that the accusations against me are false and trumped up,” he stated. He added that such conduct does not represent a fair search for the truth, emphasizing that justice should be impartial and grounded in facts rather than suspicion or bias.
The former House speaker also declared that he will not be intimidated by the Ombudsman’s pronouncements. “I will not be intimidated. I will face every accusation against me, defend myself with the facts, the evidence, and the truth,” Romualdez affirmed. His firm stance sets the stage for a continued legal and political showdown, as the Ombudsman presses forward with an investigation that Romualdez insists has been compromised by bias from the very beginning.
