THE House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution congratulating Filipino tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala for winning her first Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles championship in the United States on Monday (US time).
House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos of Ilocos Norte, one of the authors of House Resolution (HR) No. 1286, said every Filipino should be proud of what Eala has accomplished for herself and for the country.
“She has brought immense pride for her great accomplishment, not only personally for herself but for all her compatriots and for the entire country,” he said.
“We are proud of her, the whole nation is proud of her,” he said.
Marcos added that Eala’s victories in DC and in previous tournaments “show the world the Filipinos’ resilience, courage and perseverance.”
He noted that the tennis sensation rose from the ranks and climbed to the tennis rankings “through sheer grit.”
Eala won the 2026 Mubadala DC Open women’s singles championship, the biggest title of her professional career.
She defeated world No. 3 and tournament top seed Jessica Pegula, a victory that made her the first Filipino to break into the Top 20 of the WTA singles rankings.
