HOUSE trial spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur on Tuesday said the House prosecution panel was carefully preparing how to present evidence in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Z. Duterte in a way ordinary Filipinos could clearly understand.
Alonto Adiong, one of the spokespersons of the 11-member House prosecution team, said prosecutors are sharpening legal arguments and simplifying the presentation of evidence for the public.
“What strategies and approaches would we utilize so that not only the senator-judges, but also the general public, can clearly understand and easily digest the evidence being presented,” Alonto Adiong said in an interview with One News PH program Morning Matters.
He stressed that the prosecution panel wanted a straightforward and fact-driven presentation free from political theatrics.
“We will only be dealing with the actual allegations in relation to how we present them in the form of evidence or ideal testimonies without much theatrics,” Alonto Adiong said.
“We want to present this as factual, as simple as possible so that our kababayan, ordinary average-minded Filipino would be able to understand it effectively,” he added.
The prosecution panel is composed of House Committee on Justice chair Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro (Batangas 2nd District), Terry Ridon (Bicol Saro Party-list), Rodge Gutierrez (1-Rider Party-list), Ysabel Maria Zamora (San Juan City), Lorenz Defensor (Iloilo 3rd District), Chel Diokno (Akbayan Party-list), Leila de Lima (Mamamayang Liberal Party-list), Kaka Bag-ao (Dinagat Islands), Jonathan Keith Flores (Bukidnon 2nd District), Lordan Suan (Cagayan de Oro City 1st District), and Joel Chua (Manila 3rd District).
Duterte is facing impeachment charges stemming from allegations that include the misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery and corruption of Department of Education officials, and threats against the country’s top officials.
The Senate has already convened as an impeachment court and directed Duterte to answer the Articles of Impeachment, with pre-trial proceedings expected to begin next month.
