Majority of Pinoys back impeachment trial for VP Sara, OCTA survey reveals

admin April 15, 2026

A SIGNIFICANT majority of adult Filipinos believe Vice President Sara Duterte should face an impeachment trial to address the allegations against her, according to the latest Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey conducted by OCTA Research.

The survey, released on Wednesday and conducted between March 19 to 25, indicates that 69% of respondents support the idea of an impeachment trial, while 28% disagree, and 3% remain undecided.

Geographically, support for the impeachment trial is particularly strong in the Visayas, with 83% of respondents backing the proceedings. The National Capital Region (NCR) follows closely with 81% support, while the rest of Luzon (Balance Luzon) shows 69% in favor. Mindanao, however, recorded the lowest level of support at 61%, alongside the highest opposition at 38%, suggesting regional variations in public sentiment regarding the vice president’s impeachment.

The survey also highlighted support across various socioeconomic and demographic groups. A majority across all socioeconomic classes favor the impeachment trial, though support was lowest among those in class E at 54%. When broken down by age, younger Filipinos aged 18 to 24 showed the strongest backing at 77%, followed by the 35 to 44 age group at 73%. Conversely, support dipped among those aged 45 to 54, with 60% in favor. Interestingly, support for an impeachment trial was higher in rural areas (75%) compared to urban areas (63%) and slightly higher among female respondents (70%) than males (68%).

Furthermore, the OCTA survey revealed a high level of public awareness regarding the impeachment case filed against Vice President Duterte, with a staggering 87% of respondents acknowledging their knowledge of the proceedings. Only 12% stated they were unaware, and 1% were undecided.

The non-commissioned survey, which involved 1,200 adult respondents interviewed face-to-face, carries a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level, with subnational margins of error at ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
