A MALE student died Tuesday morning after reportedly falling from the platform of the Light Rail Transit Line-1’s (LRT-1) Fernando Poe Jr. Station in Quezon City.
The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported that the incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. The LRMC stated that the 23-year-old student fell from the station platform to Edsa.
“The LRMC security and safety team responded immediately to the scene. Local authorities arrived shortly to take over the scene,” the LRMC said, adding that the individual was pronounced dead on-site.
LRMC assured the public that it is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigations, and that the incident did not disrupt train operations.
The QCPD told reporters that the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether the student fell accidentally, jumped, or if foul play was involved. “We will look for witnesses and will check their testimonies,” said QCPD spokesperson Maj. Jennifer Gannaban.
The QCPD is also verifying reports that the student was struck by a passing vehicle after the fall and has yet to determine the exact cause of death. Police are also probing whether the driver may bear any liability. Gannaban said the QCPD has identified the driver and will take him into custody if confirmed that he struck the victim.
