Senior Deputy Speaker Ferdinand L. Hernandez
SENIOR Deputy Speaker Ferdinand L. Hernandez has issued an official statement addressing comments regarding the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill, refuting claims that the proposed legislation is a “hoax.”
Hernandez emphasized that the 1987 Constitution mandates Congress to enact a law defining political dynasties, and no single legislator has the authority to define it unilaterally. He argued that disagreement with a proposed definition does not render a legislative measure a hoax, and the bill filed under the Speaker’s leadership is a good-faith effort to comply with this constitutional mandate.
Hernandez further stated that policy disagreements are legitimate in a democracy, but dismissing a serious legislative proposal through sweeping labels rather than substantive engagement does not contribute to constructive public discourse. He urged for constructive engagement in the committee process and plenary deliberations to scrutinize, refine, and improve the bill on its merits.
