FISHERMEN in Sulu have recovered what is believed to be rocket debris floating in the waters off Barangay Suang Bunah, Pangutaran, prompting an investigation by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). The discovery raises questions about the origin and purpose of the object.
The PCG reported that the alleged rocket debris was found on January 1, 2026, after being recovered and towed by a fisherman on December 30, 2025, according to the Pangutaran Municipal Police Station.
“The recovered debris is currently under the custody of Barangay Suang Bunah,” stated the Coast Guard Sub-Station Pangutaran.
As of press time, the Coast Guard Station Western Sulu is coordinating with the local barangay to potentially transfer custody of the debris to the PCG for proper handling and disposition.
The PCG is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual objects sighted at sea to ensure public safety.
