Metrosundaily December 21, 2025

ANTIPOLO City and the House of Representatives are in mourning following the sudden death of 2nd District Representative Romeo Acop, who passed away Saturday evening at the age of 78. Acop was found unresponsive in his room by his daughter and security aide, prompting an immediate emergency response.

According to police reports, Dr. Karla Marie Acop, the solon’s youngest child, and his security aide, Pat Frank Louie Pastrana, discovered Acop on the floor of his room around 10:12 p.m. They were alerted by the lawmaker’s nurse, who sensed an emergency.

Acop was immediately rushed to the Assumption Hospital, but despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at 10:56 p.m.

House Deputy Speaker Rep. Ronaldo Puno confirmed Acop’s passing expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “Sadly, he has really passed on,” Puno stated. “He had his successful kidney transplant last November 28. He was recovering well and he was up and about. We were excited for his imminent return to us. Then he had a heart attack last night.”

Puno, who also represents Antipolo City’s 1st District, shared heartfelt sentiments about his long-time friend and colleague. “Our hearts are broken. He was a friend for more than 25 years and a devoted, courageous, HONEST public servant. The Congress and our Country are the lesser for his loss,” he added.

Romeo Acop had a successful kidney transplant. Despite showing signs of recovery, he suffered a heart attack, leading to his untimely death.

The community remembers Rep. Acop for his dedicated service and commitment to the people of Antipolo City.
