VETERAN journalist Inday Espina underscored the importance of journalistic ethics during the opening session of the “Workshop on Media Safety and Security During Coverage in Conflict Areas and Natural Disasters.”
She reminded participants that photojournalists must not act as mere stenographers, but should uphold fairness by securing perspectives from all conflicting sides.
The two-day workshop was spearheaded by the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) as part of its mandate to promote press freedom and strengthen the safety protocols of media workers. The event was held at Sequoia Hotel, Parañaque City.
Meanwhile, members of the Press Photographers of the Philippines (PPP) participated in a group exercise on Hazard Observation and Risk Evaluation. The activity aimed to strengthen their ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate safety measures during media coverage and other high-risk assignments.
