THE local government of Quezon City has banned the United People’s Initiative (UPI) and other groups from holding protests at the EDSA People Power Monument, citing alleged violations of their agreement with the local government.
The Quezon City LGU stated that during an activity held on November 17, 2025, by the UPI, several personalities who spoke on stage incited participants, through speeches and banners, to commit acts of sedition, rebellion, or insurrection.
This decision effectively prohibits the UPI and other groups from using the EDSA People Power Monument as a venue for future protests and rallies.
The ban raises questions about freedom of assembly and expression, particularly in a location historically associated with protest and political activism. The Quezon City LGU’s action underscores the tensions surrounding recent protests and the government’s response to them.
