PVL games in Candon to aid Cebu typhoon ‘Tino’ victims

admin November 9, 2025

CANDON, ILOCOS SUR – In a gesture of solidarity, the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and the city of Candon, Ilocos Sur, are joining forces to support families in Cebu affected by the recent Typhoon Tino.

Candon City Mayor Eric Singson and PVL president Ricky Palou announced that the proceeds from the league’s second-round matches held at the Candon City Arena on November 8 will be donated to assist those impacted by the typhoon.

The initiative was sparked by a conversation between Singson and Palou, with the mayor proposing that the PVL’s visit to Ilocos Sur be used as an opportunity to extend support to communities in Cebu still recovering from the typhoon’s devastation. “We decided, my fellow officials of the city, that the proceeds of these games in the PVL will be donated to Cebu City as our contribution sa mga naghihirap nating kababayan,” Singson said, expressing his city’s commitment to helping those in need.

Palou echoed this sentiment, stating, “The Mayor of Candon, Mayor Eric Singson, and I talked about it. We decided to give the proceeds of this game to the victims of the super typhoon.” He further explained that the suggestion came from Mayor Singson, and he readily agreed, recognizing the importance of supporting families severely impacted by the typhoon, many of whom lost their homes and were forced into evacuation centers due to floods and destruction.

The PVL’s stop in Candon, now in its fourth iteration in just two years, takes on a deeper meaning with this charitable endeavor. The event features a double-header, with PLDT facing Galeries Tower and Choco Mucho clashing with ZUS Coffee. Palou emphasized the league’s commitment to supporting those affected by the typhoon, stating, “Sa’min importante kasi ‘di ba you know naman in some areas, when a typhoon hits, it’s difficult for a lot of people. They get displaced from their homes, they get put into shelters. So any help that anyone can give them is good for everybody.” With another typhoon already threatening the region, Palou assured that the league stands ready to extend help again if needed.
