THREE major dams in Luzon have begun opening their water gates in anticipation of Severe Tropical Storm Fung-wong, which will be named “Uwan” upon entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility on November 8.
Angat Dam in Bulacan, with a water level reaching 211.14 meters – exceeding its normal level of 210 meters – has opened one gate. Ipo Dam is also nearing its spilling level, while La Mesa Dam in Quezon City remains below overflow levels. PAGASA has advised communities along the Angat River to exercise caution.
Dams in Northern and Central Luzon, including Ambuklao, Binga, San Roque, Pantabangan, and Magat, are also being closely monitored.
Heavy rainfall brought by “Uwan” could trigger further gate openings, potentially impacting towns in Bulacan, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Isabela, and Ifugao.
Residents in these areas are strongly advised to prepare for possible flooding and to heed the warnings and advisories issued by local authorities.
