DOH reports lower ILI cases in October compared to previous weeks

admin October 19, 2025

THE Department of Health (DOH) reported that the number of influenza-like illness (ILI) cases in the first two weeks of October is lower compared to previous weeks.

In an interview with DZMM, Health Promotion Bureau Director Tina Marasigan stated that from September 28 to October 11, 2025, the DOH recorded 6,457 ILI cases nationwide. “This is 39 percent lower compared to the 10,740 cases recorded from September 14 to September 27,” Marasigan said. She added that this is also 25 percent lower than the 8,628 cases during the same period in 2024, although the number may still change due to ongoing surveillance.

In a press briefing, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa clarified that there are no plans for a lockdown and there is no flu outbreak in the country. “There are no plans for a lockdown; that’s fake news. What we have are common seasonal respiratory illnesses. We don’t have a flu outbreak,” Herbosa said. The secretary also explained that diseases such as cough and colds commonly spread quickly during the rainy season, and recommended wearing a face mask or staying at home for those with symptoms.

In related news, the Department of Education–NCR announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in all public schools in Metro Manila from October 13 to 14 to allow for disinfection, sanitation, and building inspection following an increase in ILI cases and recent earthquakes in the country.
