
General Luna, Surigao del Norte – A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near General Luna, Surigao del Norte at 7:03 AM on October 17, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The earthquake’s epicenter was located 12 kilometers south-southeast of General Luna, at a depth of 28 kilometers.
The earthquake’s impact was widely felt across the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Phivolcs reported the following intensities: Intensity V was felt in General Luna, Claver, Pilar, Placer, San Benito, San Isidro, and Socorro (Surigao del Norte), as well as Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, and San Jose (Dinagat Islands). Intensity IV was felt in Butuan City, Burgos, Del Carmen, San Francisco, Santa Monica, Sison, Surigao City, and Tagana-an (Surigao del Norte), Libjo and Tubajon (Dinagat Islands), and numerous towns in Southern Leyte and Surigao del Sur.
Lower intensities were reported in other areas, with Intensity III felt in parts of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. Intensity II was felt as far away as Biliran, Ormoc City, parts of Leyte, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Davao de Oro, Bohol, Eastern Samar, and Camiguin. Intensity I was even felt in parts of Surigao del Sur and Bohol. Phivolcs has not yet issued any reports of significant damage, but aftershocks are possible. Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant.
