FORMER speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez of Leyte on Tuesday vowed full cooperation with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), saying he appeared before the body to help uncover the truth behind allegations surrounding the national budget process.

“I am here to cooperate fully and help uncover the truth. Wala akong itinatago at walang dapat itago,” Romualdez said.

He explained that while he was not part of the bicameral conference committee that finalized the budget, he was ready to share what he knew to assist in clarifying the issues being examined.

“While I was not part of the bicameral conference committee, whatever I know, I will share,” Romualdez expressed. “My purpose is to clarify the issues and share whatever information I can that may help the Commission in its work.”

The Leyte House leader underscored that his attendance was guided by his long-held belief in transparency and accountability, saying he intended to help the Commission ensure that the truth comes out.

“I have always believed in transparency and accountability, and that’s why I am here today — to do my part in ensuring that the truth comes out,” he stated.

Romualdez emphasized that he had no hesitation about facing the inquiry, stressing that he would cooperate in every way possible to hasten the proceedings.

“I am willing to do anything that will help speed up the investigation, because like every Filipino, I want the truth to be established without delay,” he said.

He added that his appearance was meant to uphold the principle that facts, not politics, should define the course of the investigation.

“At the end of the day, it is evidence — not political noise or unfounded accusations — that will reveal what really happened,” Romualdez said. “My presence here reflects my commitment to state the truth and not allow politics to prevail.”

Upon his arrival at the ICI, Romualdez reiterated his gratitude to the Commission for the opportunity to participate in its proceedings, noting that he intended to provide personal insights that could aid in the inquiry.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa ICI para sa imbitasyon. Ngayong araw na ito, I am ready to give my personal knowledge on the budget process,” he said in an ambush interview.

Romualdez clarified that although he was not a member of the bicameral conference committee, he came prepared to help the Commission establish the facts and dispel any misconceptions.

“I am not a member of the bicameral conference committee. I will share any and all information to help determine the truth and to give all the facts and information,” he said.

He further stated that his participation in the hearings was part of his commitment to public accountability and transparency, adding that he had no reservations about answering questions relevant to the inquiry.

“I will be here to help in any way to speed up the resolution of the fact-finding investigation of the ICI,” he added.
