Remulla: Police exercised maximum tolerance in Manila protest

admin September 22, 2025

INTERIOR Secretary Jonvic Remulla has asserted that the Philippine National Police (PNP) acted with maximum tolerance during Sunday’s violent protest in Manila, emphasizing that law enforcers were not carrying firearms.

“There was no discharge of weapon from any PNP official,” Remulla stated during a Palace press conference.

He clarified that PNP personnel only responded by pushing back after protesters began throwing Molotov cocktails.

The Interior Secretary reported that 216 individuals were arrested in connection with the protests, with a significant number being minors.

Of those arrested, 89 were minors, with 65 identified as children in conflict with the law and 24 classified as children at risk, meaning they are 14 years old or younger. Remulla also noted that 95 police officers sustained injuries during the clashes with protesters.

Remulla further emphasized that no one died during the protest and that no protester was seriously injured, adding that police personnel sustained more injuries than the protesters.

He also reiterated that those involved in the violent protest action in Manila City on Sunday may face sedition charges.
