THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) is cracking down on individuals hoarding and reselling beep cards at inflated prices, warning that anyone buying more than two cards at once will be suspected of hoarding and could face arrest and charges.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon made the statement during a press briefing on Tuesday, following the presentation of Cateleen Ann Dumondong Manalo, who was arrested for selling beep cards on Facebook Marketplace for P200, more than six times the actual price of P30.
Manalo was apprehended in an entrapment operation last week by the Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group, which is working with the DOTr to combat the illegal resale of beep cards online.
Dizon stated that more arrests are expected in the coming days and months. He emphasized that the DOTr’s goal is not to shame people but to send a clear message to those who are abusing and taking advantage of Filipinos who simply want to purchase beep cards.
