PATRIOTISM is the call of the times. Love of country the strong tie that binds Filipinos together.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday led the country in commemorating National Heroes’ Day, urging Filipinos to demonstrate their love of country through “acts of genuine service.”
In his message, President Marcos paid tribute to the heroism of ordinary Filipinos who fulfill their duties in service of their fellow Filipinos “in extraordinary ways.”
Honoring the sacrifices of exemplary men and women in forging the Filipino nation, the President said the country constantly needed heroes and heroines who commit to nation-building.
“We are fortunate that the Inang Bayan continuously gives rise to heroic individuals best exemplified by our farmers, fisherfolk, workers, teachers, soldiers, law enforcers, scientists, and countless ordinary men and women who, in extraordinary ways, fulfill their duties,” President Marcos said.
In his call for unity and civic responsibility, the President urged Filipinos to honor the nation’s heroes not only in memory but also in deed.
“As we continue on our journey of nationhood, let us emulate their examples by manifesting our patriotism through acts of genuine service to our people,” the Chief Executive urged.
“Through simple but meaningful acts of compassion to our brothers and sisters, we can be our generation’s heroes, bringing forth the Bagong Pilipinas we aspire,” the President stressed.
Under Republic Act 9492, the nation observes National Heroes’ Day every last Monday of August. The holiday commemorates the “Cry of Pugadlawin” on August 23, 1896, that began the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule.
