THE office of Congressman Leandro Legarda Leviste has confirmed that a case against Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Batangas 1st District Engineer Abelardo Calalo is scheduled to be filed at the Office of the Batangas Provincial Prosecutor on Tuesday, August 26.
The case stems from Calalo’s arrest last Friday for allegedly offering a P3.126 million bribe to Congressman Leviste.
In a statement, Congressman Leviste’s office emphasized their commitment to fighting corruption within the DPWH.
“We should not tolerate any corruption in DPWH. We should demand projects at better quality and lower cost, and obligate contractors to correct any deficiencies immediately without additional cost to government,” the statement read. Beyond this specific case, Congressman Leviste’s office pledged to push for broader reforms to address systemic problems within the DPWH.
