VICE President Sara Duterte’s legal team has officially submitted its response to the House of Representatives’ motion for reconsideration regarding the dismissed impeachment case against her. Atty. Michael Poa confirmed the filing of the comment or opposition to the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday afternoon.
“In deference to the sub judice rule and out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be granting media interviews or issuing further statements at this time,” Poa stated, declining to provide further details on the content of their submission.
The Supreme Court had previously ruled the impeachment articles against Duterte unconstitutional, citing the one-year rule and a violation of her right to due process. However, the SC clarified that this did not absolve Duterte of the charges and that a new impeachment complaint could be filed after February 6, 2026.
The House of Representatives, through the Office of the Solicitor General, is seeking to overturn the SC’s decision, arguing that it should be allowed to exercise its exclusive constitutional duty to prosecute impeachable officials, with the Senate responsible for trying the case. The legal battle continues as both sides await the Supreme Court’s next move.
