MILF hails PBBM’s support for Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election

admin August 12, 2025

THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has expressed its strong support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s recent pronouncement prioritizing the conduct of the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election, set for October 13, 2025.

MILF Central Chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim said the President’s statement provides a clear assurance that the polls will proceed as scheduled, effectively ending speculation of any extension or postponement.

“Coming from no less than the highest official of the land, this assurance decisively puts to rest all doubts about the conduct of the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election,” Chair Murad said.

“We thank the President for underscoring the vital role of this historic milestone in advancing the Bangsamoro peace process.”

Chair Murad reaffirmed the MILF’s full commitment to its obligations under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), noting that after six years of transition, the election will mark the official turnover of leadership to a democratically elected Bangsamoro Parliament.

“This is the moment for the Bangsamoro people to freely choose their leaders without external interference. From bullets to ballots, the MILF—through the United Bangsamoro Justice Party—will demonstrate political maturity and submit to the will of the people in clean, fair, peaceful, and credible elections,” he added.

From bullets to ballots, the MILF—through the United Bangsamoro Justice Party—stands ready to demonstrate its political maturity and submit to the will of the people in clean, fair, peaceful, and credible elections.

The MILF expressed full confidence in the National Government and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to complete all preparations, ensuring that voters, political parties, sectoral organizations, and candidates are properly guided on the rules and procedures for the parliamentary polls.

Founded in 1977 as an armed movement seeking autonomy for the Moro people, the MILF has since evolved into a political and social force.

Following 17 years of negotiations, it signed the historic CAB with the Government of the Philippines in March 2014, with support from Conciliation Resources in mediation efforts.

In 2018, the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law granted greater autonomy to the Bangsamoro region, paving the way for the MILF to commit to the decommissioning of its 30,000 combatants and the transition toward democratic governance.
