BOC Zambo seizes ₱25.81M in smuggled goods, including 4 vehicles

admin August 9, 2025

THE Bureau of Customs (BOC), through the Port of Zamboanga, has seized an estimated ₱25.81 million worth of smuggled goods in four separate operations conducted throughout July.

The operations, carried out at a routine checkpoint in the port area, involved a joint effort by the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), and personnel from the Office of the District Collector.

The seized goods included 370 master cases of smuggled cigarettes and 250 sacks of white sand containing broken corals.

Authorities confiscated four vehicles used in the attempted transport of these illicit goods after drivers failed to present the necessary import documents and permits.

Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSDs) were issued for all four incidents, citing violations of the Tobacco Exportation and Importation Rules and Regulations, Executive Order No. 245, Section 117 of Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), Section 1113 (paragraphs a and f), Section 110 of R.A. 7942 (Philippine Mining Act of 1995), and Batas Pambansa Blg. 265. \

The seized items and vehicles are now subject to forfeiture proceedings, and the BOC is building cases to identify and prosecute those responsible.

BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance in combating smuggling, particularly of goods that negatively impact revenue and the environment. He stated that the BOC continues to strengthen its enforcement measures to protect trade integrity and environmental security, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directives.
