Khonghun demands end to online gambling menace

admin August 4, 2025

HOUSE Deputy Speaker and Zambales First District Representative Jay Khonghun today issued a strong and urgent appeal to end the growing prevalence of online gambling in the country, warning that the silent spread of the vice is destroying the very fabric of Filipino households and communities.

In a public statement, Khonghun expressed alarm over the increasing number of families affected by online gambling and emphasized that the issue goes beyond morality—it is a matter of national concern involving the mental health, livelihood, and future of the Filipino people.

He underscored how easily accessible gambling platforms have led to widespread addiction, financial hardship, and family neglect.

Calling online gambling a “silent plague,” Khonghun highlighted its role in weakening the social foundations of the country.

Khonghun urged government officials and regulators to take swift and decisive action against systems that profit from the vulnerability of the masses.

He concluded with a powerful message, calling on society to reject vice in favor of dignity, discipline, and compassion.

Deputy Speaker Khonghun’s statement adds to the growing number of voices in government and civil society pushing for stricter regulations—or a total ban—on online gambling platforms that continue to operate across the country.
