DOH warns public as dengue cases increased following rains, flooding

admin July 28, 2025

DENGUE fever cases in the Philippines saw a slight increase during the first two weeks of June 2025. The Department of Health (DOH) reported a jump from 8,233 cases between June 1st and 14th to 10,733 cases between June 15th and 28th.

This upward trend has prompted the DOH to prepare for a potential surge in dengue cases, particularly given the recent heavy rainfall and flooding experienced across the country. The increased rainfall creates ideal breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector for dengue transmission.

The DOH is urging the public to remain vigilant and take preventative measures to combat the spread of dengue. The agency reiterates the importance of the “4Ts” strategy: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, self-protect through the use of insect repellents, seek early consultation for any symptoms, and support fogging/spraying in affected areas.

With the increased risk associated with the recent inclement weather, the DOH stresses the need for proactive measures to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, particularly standing water accumulated after the rains. This preventative approach is crucial in mitigating the potential for a significant dengue outbreak.
