FOUR Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadets are under investigation for an alleged hazing incident involving a fellow cadet.
Baguio City Police reported on Sunday that two of the suspects are 4th Class cadets, while the others hold the ranks of 1st Class and 2nd Class.
The investigation revealed that a 4th Class cadet was allegedly subjected to repeated physical abuse and humiliation between September 2 and 29, 2024.
The alleged abuse, described as “animalistic tripping,” included punches and excessive physical training, ultimately leading to the victim’s collapse from exhaustion. The police report emphasizes that the alleged maltreatment was not an isolated incident but rather a pattern of behavior occurring regularly within the barracks.
The incident raises serious concerns about the culture within the PMA and the effectiveness of its efforts to prevent and address hazing.
The alleged actions of the senior cadets highlight the potential for a systemic problem within the academy’s training environment.
The investigation is ongoing, and the identified cadets face potential disciplinary actions, ranging from administrative sanctions to criminal charges, depending on the findings of the investigation.
