Marcos Jr. to review Divorce and Anti-Dynasty Bills

admin July 3, 2025

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will carefully review recently refiled bills in Congress, particularly those concerning divorce and anti-political dynasty.

According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro, the President currently lacks a definitive stance on the divorce bill, emphasizing the need for thorough review of its provisions. Undersecretary Castro noted that many commonly cited grounds for legal separation are now being included as reasons for marriage annulment, blurring the lines between the two legal processes. This necessitates a careful examination of the bill’s content before any official position can be taken.

The President’s ultimate support for the divorce bill, Undersecretary Castro clarified, will hinge on the specifics of the proposed legislation and whether it aligns with the position of the Catholic Church.

The Church holds significant influence in the Philippines, and its stance on such a socially sensitive issue is likely to play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and influencing the President’s decision.

Similarly, the anti-political dynasty bills will undergo careful scrutiny before the President forms an official opinion. The administration’s approach suggests a cautious and deliberate process, prioritizing a comprehensive understanding of the proposed legislation before taking a public position.
