PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) personnel have confiscated an estimated P1.7 billion worth of suspected shabu discovered by local fishermen off the coast of Pangasinan.
The discovery was made in Barangay Balingasay, Agno, where fishermen located two sacks of suspected illegal drugs floating approximately 32 nautical miles west of Agno.
Four additional sacks were subsequently recovered in nearby areas. The PCG attributed this successful seizure to strengthened collaboration with local fishing communities, emphasizing the importance of their vigilance and cooperation in maintaining maritime security.
The successful operation underscores the PCG’s commitment to combating illegal drug trafficking in Philippine waters. Captain Mark Larsen Mariano, in response to the seizure, ordered an intensification of coastal patrols and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to enhance maritime security.
This collaborative approach, combining increased PCG presence with community engagement, is seen as crucial in disrupting the flow of illegal narcotics through the country’s coastal regions. The investigation into the origin and intended destination of the seized drugs is ongoing.
