DOH warns public against misleading Mpox social media posts

admin May 31, 2025

THE Department of Health (DOH) issued a strong warning on Saturday, urging the public to disregard false information circulating on social media regarding the transmission of monkeypox (mpox) and the alleged implementation of lockdowns in the country.

Assistant Secretary Dr. Albert Domingo, DOH spokesperson, specifically addressed misleading Facebook posts employing deceptive marketing tactics, fake endorsements from supposed experts, and unsubstantiated health claims.

He emphasized that these posts are inaccurate and should be ignored, citing a decline in mpox cases in May 2025 compared to April 2025 as evidence against the alarmist narratives. Dr. Domingo categorically stated that there is no need for a lockdown as mpox is not transmitted through airborne particles.

The DOH’s proactive response underscores the importance of combating misinformation during public health crises.

The collaboration between the DOH and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to remove misleading accounts highlights a concerted effort to curb the spread of false information. The clarification regarding mpox transmission and the absence of any lockdown measures aims to alleviate public anxiety and prevent unnecessary panic. T

he public is encouraged to rely on official sources of information, such as the DOH website and other credible health organizations, for accurate and up-to-date information on mpox and other public health concerns.

The continued spread of misinformation poses a significant challenge to public health efforts, and the DOH’s decisive action is a crucial step in maintaining public trust and ensuring accurate information dissemination.
