THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has rescued six underage victims of sexual abuse and exploitation in Bombon, Camarines Sur, following an investigation into the online sale of child sexual abuse materials (CSAEM).
The operation stemmed from a tip provided by the US Homeland Security Investigations team in Manila, which reported a Filipino individual selling CSAEM online in exchange for money.
On May 27th, the NBI Violence Against Women and Children Division and the NBI Naga District Office conducted an entrapment operation at the suspect’s residence, resulting in an arrest.
A subsequent forensic examination of the suspect’s confiscated cellphones revealed that four of the rescued minors appeared in images being sold online. The investigation identified a total of six child victims of sexual abuse and exploitation.
The suspect is currently facing inquest proceedings for violation of Section 4(c) of Republic Act 11930, the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act, in conjunction with Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The NBI is continuing its investigation to identify any other potential victims or perpetrators and to build a strong case for prosecution.
The successful rescue operation underscores the NBI’s commitment to combating online child sexual abuse and exploitation and protecting vulnerable children. The rescued minors are now receiving the necessary care and support.
