A SHOCKING act of violence shattered the peace of Monday morning in Barangay Salitran 3 as a gunman opened fire during a flag-raising ceremony at the barangay hall, leaving four dead and one critically injured.
The incident occurred around 8:00 AM as barangay officials and employees were assembled for their weekly ceremony. Initial reports indicate the suspect, identified only as “Ariel,” a 50-year-old former barangay tanod (village watchman), approached the group from behind and fired multiple shots from an as-yet-unidentified firearm. The gunman shot himself after the shooting spree.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of terror and chaos as the unexpected gunfire erupted, targeting barangay personnel standing in formation.
Panic ensued as people scattered to seek cover. While local authorities responded swiftly, four individuals succumbed to their gunshot wounds before medical assistance could arrive. One survivor remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
The identities of the victims have not yet been officially released, pending notification of their families.
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, but authorities are exploring several potential leads, including possible personal grievances or unresolved conflicts between the suspect and barangay leadership.
