NORA Aunor, the Superstar and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, has withdrawn her candidacy as the second nominee of the People’s Champ Guardians Partylist to support the KABAYAN Partylist.
Aunor, also known as “Ate Guy,” is a renowned actress and singer.
“Instead of seeking a position, I chose to support a group that has proven its commitment to serving the country, and that is the Kabayan Partylist,” said Aunor.
Aunor has long been an inspiration to many Filipinos, not only for her artistic talent but also for her compassion for others, especially the poor, workers, and fellow artists. Her support for KABAYAN Partylist reflects their shared goal of advocating for the welfare of marginalized Filipinos and ensuring the protection of their rights.
KABAYAN Partylist is at the forefront of promoting legislation aimed at protecting and strengthening the labor, education, and health sectors. Some of the laws championed by KABAYAN Partylist include:
- The Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers (R.A. 12021), which provides specific rights and benefits to Filipino seafarers.
- The Universal Health Care Act (R.A. 11223), which ensures access to quality healthcare for all Filipinos.
- The Department of Migrant Workers Act (R.A. 11641), which strengthens government support for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
- The Transnational Higher Education Act (R.A. 11448), which expands opportunities for Filipinos seeking quality education from international institutions.
- The Philippine Salt Industry Development Act (R.A. 11985), which aims to revive and strengthen the local salt industry.
KABAYAN Partylist’s advocacy does not end there. It continues to collaborate with various sectors to promote:
- The Magna Carta of Filipino Migrant Workers, which will provide stronger protection and long-term benefits for OFWs.
- The Kabayan OFW Pension Bill, which will ensure the financial security of Filipino workers abroad.
- The Philippine Midwifery Bill, which aims to improve the health of mothers and their babies.
KABAYAN Partylist also recognizes the important role of private education as a partner with the government in shaping the future of youth. It advocates for the Expanded Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (E-GASTPE) and the Magna Carta of Small and Medium Private Schools to ensure sufficient support for these schools in providing quality education.
“We are deeply honored by Ms. Nora Aunor’s support. She is an exceptional Filipino who has inspired many of our countrymen. Just as she has dedicated her life and talent to our nation, we are committed to promoting laws that will truly improve the lives of our people,” said Salo.
