THE Department of Health (DOH) has reported a slight decrease in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases in the Philippines during the last quarter of 2024.
Health Assistant Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Albert Domingo stated that the daily number of new HIV infections dropped from 50 cases per day between July and September to just 3 cases per day from October to December.
The majority of new infections are among males aged 25 to 34. Sex between men remains the primary mode of transmission for the virus.
The Philippines currently has over 215,000 reported HIV cases. Of these, only 134,036 have been diagnosed and received medical attention. 95% of those diagnosed are currently receiving antiretroviral therapy.
