A RECENT entrapment operation conducted by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) against a travel agency issuing fake documents to foreign nationals has sparked concerns of a potential “inside job” involving various government agencies, according to Senator Mark Villar.
Villar, during a Senate hearing on Thursday, February 13, 2025, investigating the directive to ban Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), highlighted the discovery of fake marriage certificates, birth certificates, and passports bearing Filipino names issued to foreign nationals. He stated that the illegal travel agency likely had connections within government agencies to facilitate the issuance of these fraudulent documents.
“This makes us realize that we barely scratched the surface of this POGO issue. We need to look at the angle that there is an inside job,” Senator Villar emphasized. He suggested that this could explain the continued influx of foreign nationals into the Philippines using falsified documents.
The Senate committee will now delve deeper into the matter, seeking to determine the extent of government agency involvement and the status of deportations for foreign POGO workers who entered the country illegally. They will also investigate the total number of foreign POGO workers deported and the Bureau of Immigration’s plans for the remaining foreign POGO workers in the Philippines.
The revelations have raised serious concerns about the security implications of POGO operations and the potential for corruption within government agencies. The Senate probe aims to shed light on the full scope of the POGO issue and identify the individuals and agencies responsible for facilitating the issuance of fake documents and the illegal entry of foreign nationals.
