DOLE supports Filipinos amid US deportation crackdown

admin January 29, 2025

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will extend assistance to Filipino workers in the United States facing deportation amid the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma stated that DOLE will provide support in line with the directives of the Marcos administration, mirroring the efforts of other agencies such as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In November 2024, the DMW announced its intention to assist over 300,000 undocumented Filipinos in the US who are potentially facing deportation. Affected Filipinos will receive support in the form of job retooling, reskilling, and employment facilitation upon their return to the Philippines.

Upon his return to the White House, President Trump reiterated his commitment to deporting illegal immigrants, particularly those with criminal records.

On Sunday, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez reported that at least 24 Filipinos have been deported due to their involvement in criminal activities.

Romualdez advised Filipinos without legal status to voluntarily return to the Philippines or begin processing their documents, urging them not to wait for deportation.
