FPJ Panday Bayanihan calls for urgent aid for solo parents and children

FPJ Panday Bayanihan party-list first nominee Brian Poe Llamanzares calls on the government to urgently address the escalating plight and struggles of solo parents and their children in the country.

This population is enduring the effects of economic despair, emotional torment, and the utter lack of support systems. As such, there is an acute need for aid which involves many angles.

Solo parents, predominantly women, comprise a significant portion of the Philippine population and face immense pressure to balance work, childcare, and household responsibilities.

This often puts many in a financially precarious situation especially when one considers the level of employment discrimination and the unavailability of decent paying jobs.

Many families in this country work hard to satisfy basic needs but are almost always unable to do so due to the high cost of living. It is also worsened by the lack of affordable and accessible childcare which makes many parents either choose work over looking after their children or vice versa; a decision that has disastrous consequences for the well being of a child.

Children of solo parents often lack adequate resources, including education and healthcare, due to their parents’ financial struggles.

FPJ Panday Bayanihan is working to ensure these families receive the support they need.

The DSWD and PhilHealth implement Republic Act 8972, the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act.

Solo parents in Quezon City are struggling to get government benefits because of difficulties obtaining the necessary IDs, says Josie Lipio Velasco, head of the city’s solo parents organization.

Even with the law in place, educational scholarships are scarce, relying mostly on city programs instead of a national one. This shows a major flaw in the system meant to help solo parents and their kids.
