THE Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that 903 officers were dismissed from service last year due to various offenses. This figure is part of a larger crackdown on misconduct within the force, with 5,457 officers facing administrative charges in 2023.
Of those charged, 2,765 received penalties ranging from suspensions to demotions and reprimands, while 2,691 were exonerated. The dismissals included high-ranking officers: five lieutenant colonels, six majors, 12 captains, and five lieutenants.
In addition to these disciplinary actions, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil ordered the restrictive custody of 20 officers currently on active duty, pending investigation into a multi-billion drug bust in Manila from late 2022.
The PNP has implemented measures to address misconduct, including the “zero-backlog program” which aims to resolve administrative cases within 110 days. The force also conducted seminars for 1,663 personnel to improve their understanding of disciplinary policies and procedures.
