Human Trafficking Case: Quiboloy seeks bail, cites illness

admin January 14, 2025

SELF-PROCLAIMED son of God, Apollo Quiboloy, attended his bail motion hearing on Monday, January 13. Quiboloy and his co-accused in the qualified human trafficking case arrived at the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 159.

According to Attorney Israelito Torreon, Quiboloy’s legal counsel, they intended to file a motion requesting that Quiboloy be excused from attending the hearing due to his cough.

“At around 10:00 in the evening last night, I was about to file a motion that he be excused from personally appearing today but I figured that would not look good to the public,” said Torreon.

“So Pastor endured, despite his severe cough, he came to court to show that he is innocent,” he added.

Torreon said they filed a petition for bail, arguing that the evidence against their client is weak.

“The private complainant has already undergone direct examination, and we haven’t had a chance to cross-examine yet because her testimony was quite lengthy,” he said.

“We are hopeful that after the cross-examination and after the presentation of all the evidence by the prosecution, the judge will be able to rule that the evidence of guilt is not strong,” he added.

Meanwhile, the private prosecutors of the complainant, “Amanda” (not her real name), said they are ready to present evidence to prove Quiboloy’s guilt. They also hope that Quiboloy’s bail motion will be denied.

“Because when you tell the truth, you are ready because you don’t need to twist what you say, so our client is ready,” said Atty. Joeie Domingo.

“We really want the bail to be denied because we know that Pastor wants to get out because he wants to campaign. Then consistent with our claim— he is a human trafficker, an abuser, a rapist, and we want him to not win,” added Atty. Ian Enterina.

The hearing will continue on January 16.
