THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is initially releasing a limited number of its new polymer banknotes—between 70 and 90 million pieces per denomination—to meet increased holiday demand.
This initial launch focuses on the new P500, P100, and P50 denominations, supplementing the existing polymer P1,000 banknotes (currently 661 million in circulation).
BSP Assistant Governor Mary Anne Lim explained that larger quantities of the P500, P100, and P50 banknotes will be released in 2025.
The new polymer bills, featuring various native and endangered Philippine species, follow the design of the original P1,000 polymer note, which showcases the Philippine eagle and sampaguita flower.
