THE House of Representatives on Saturday ordered the release of Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez of the Office of the Vice President. The release order was signed by Manila Representative Joel Chua, chairperson of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.
Lopez was detained last week following allegations of irregularities in the Office of the Vice President, specifically concerning the use of government funds. The allegations prompted the House Committee to launch an investigation, leading to Lopez’s detention.
The order, which was issued after a medical examination was conducted on Lopez, states: “In view of the undertaking to attend all hearings, you are hereby ordered to immediately release Atty. Zuleika T. Lopez.”
Despite the allegations, Vice President Sara Duterte defended Lopez, stating that her chief of staff had no knowledge about the matter being questioned. Duterte also revealed that Lopez had expressed her intention to resign and that she wanted to be with her family.
The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability is currently conducting an investigation into the allegations against Lopez.
