Romualdez: Bonifacio’s legacy of integrity, accountability must guide nation

admin November 30, 2024

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez marked Bonifacio Day with a call for integrity, unity, and accountability, reminding Filipinos that these values are essential in building a stronger and more resilient nation.

“Today, as we honor the courage and sacrifices of Gat Andres Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution, we are reminded of the vital role of integrity, unity, and accountability in nation-building,” Speaker Romualdez said in his Bonifacio Day message.

The leader of the 300-plus-strong House of Representatives honored Bonifacio’s bravery, stressing his fight against oppression and his unwavering commitment to freedom, justice, and the welfare of the Filipino people.

“Bonifacio stood against tyranny and division, championing the ideals of freedom, justice, and the welfare of the Filipino people above all else,” the Speaker said.

The House chief also reflected on the enduring relevance of Bonifacio’s principles, saying his example calls for leadership rooted in truth and responsibility even in today’s challenging times.

“In these challenging times, when the principles of democracy and good governance are put to the test, let us draw inspiration from Bonifacio’s bravery and steadfast commitment to the truth,” Speaker Romualdez said.

“His life reminds us that genuine leadership demands not just strength, but also respect for others and a deep sense of responsibility to uphold the greater good,” he added.

The Speaker urged Filipinos to face challenges with unwavering resolve and a collective belief in the nation’s potential to move forward and progress.

“The path toward progress is never without challenges, but like Bonifacio, we must face them with unwavering resolve and a firm belief in the collective power of the Filipino people,” he pointed out.

The House leader called on Filipinos to reject fear and discord, and to embrace the spirit of “Bayanihan” in building a nation rooted in peace, justice, and prosperity.

“Let us reject fear, division, and discord, and instead work together in the spirit of ‘Bayanihan’ to build a nation grounded on peace, justice, and prosperity for all,” Speaker Romualdez said.

He concluded his message by urging Filipinos to honor Bonifacio’s sacrifices by safeguarding democracy and preserving the freedoms he valiantly fought for.

“As we commemorate Bonifacio’s legacy, may his patriotism inspire us to remain vigilant, principled, and united as we navigate these turbulent times,” he said. “Together, let us honor his memory by safeguarding the democracy and freedom he fought so valiantly to achieve.”

Bonifacio Day, observed every November 30, honors the revolutionary leader whose courage and vision ignited the Philippine Revolution and inspired generations to fight for independence and justice.
