SENATOR Risa Hontiveros expressed her support for the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee’s investigation into the Philippine War on Illegal Drugs, which commenced on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Hontiveros, whose office previously investigated the alleged murder of Kian de Los Santos during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war, believes the hearing could bring justice and healing for Kian’s family and other victims.
She also raised concerns about the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) incentive system, which she claims rewarded policemen for killing alleged drug addicts.
“To all those who say that the War on Drugs is a punishment for those who lose their way, my message to you is this: there is no honor in punishment like ‘tokhang.’ It should not be an honor to be called ‘The Punisher,’ when thousands of innocent people, including babies, have died in your name. Filipinos will never be proud of that War on Drugs,” Hontiveros emphasized.
